Maurice Wolf
Maurice Wolf has been practicing law since 1962.
Mr. Wolf advises businesses on the formation and operation of joint ventures and other business enterprises which cross national boundaries, related investment transactions, privatizations, loan and other project financing, transactions with international and bilateral financing as well as with development organizations and international procurement projects, international telecommunications transactions, the practices and procedures of international and regional trade organizations, dispute avoidance procedures as well as arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution practices.
Mr. Wolf also advises governments and international organizations on investment, telecommunications and related legislation as well as on privatization practices, procedures and negotiations.
Mr. Wolf has held a variety of public and private positions. During the 1996 - 1997 academic year, Mr. Wolf served as Visiting Professor of International Law at the American University Law School and co-directed the law school's summer international law program in Santiago, Chile and was Visiting Lecturer in 1998 at the University of Georgia Law School. Mr. Wolf has lectured extensively during his career and published numerous articles on international business law and related matters.
Mr. Wolf served as Senior Counsel for the Inter-American Development Bank, Advisory Director of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration and Chairman of the Banking and Finance Subcommittee for the Committee on International Investment and Finance of the Washington, D.C. Bar. Mr. Wolf was also an Attorney Advisor in the Office of Satellite Communications at the Federal Communications Commission. He was also Chairman of the Task Force on the Enterprise for the Americas Initiative of the Inter-American Bar Foundation, for which he is presently a member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Wolf serves on the International Panel of the American Arbitration Association's Center For International Arbitration. He also serves on the Editorial Advisory Committee of International Legal Materials. Mr. Wolf is also an arbitrator on an ICSID Arbitral Tribunal.
Mr. Wolf was born in London, England. Before law school, he studied at Universidad Nacional Automa de Mexico and earned his B.A. degree with honors at the University of California at Los Angeles. Mr. Wolf earned his Law Degree at Columbia University where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and President of the Columbia University Society of International Law. Mr. Wolf is a native English speaker and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
Lawrence Knoll
Lawrence Knoll has been practicing law since 1988.
He began his career serving with the Honorable Jane Restani at the
U.S. Court of International Trade.
Mr. Knoll counsels clients on international business law matters including:
sales transactions, distribution agreements, agency agreements, licensing,
joint ventures, venture capital, e-commerce, logistics, as well as
U.S. customs and international trade regulations.
He is a member of the Customs and International Trade Bar Association.
Mr. Knoll lectures on developments within commercial law as well as on U.S. customs
and international trade law.
Mr. Knoll earned his law degree at the University of Pennsylvania Law School,
during which time he served as an associate editor for the Comparative Labor Law Journal
and studied international business at The Wharton School. In addition to his
responsibilities as a lawyer and business consultant, Mr. Knoll participates in
several academic and public service committees.
Edward Ramos Sousa
Edward Ramos Sousa counsels clients on international finance, investment banking, business immigration, international business negotiations, drafting contracts and other international legal matters.
In 1985, Mr. Ramos Sousa was appointed by the New York City Comptroller to serve as Principal Administrator for the Executive Division of the New York City Comptroller's Office. Prior to that appointment, he served with the National Labor Relations Board and with private international business consulting and investment banking organizations. Mr. Ramos Sousa has been in private practice as a lawyer since 1988.
Mr. Ramos Sousa lectures on international law matters and recently presented a report sponsored by the Chile Center for Education and Development.
Mr. Ramos Sousa studied at the University of Paris (Sorbonne -- Paris IV) and earned a Language Certificate there in 1977. In 1978, he graduated from Brandeis University with a degree in politics and Latin American Studies. Mr. Ramos Sousa graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1981. He is a native English speaker and is fluent in French, Spanish and Portuguese.
Carlos E. Cardoso
Carlos Cardoso is the senior partner of our associated Rio de Janeiro office, Cardoso, in Brazil since 1959. His practice includes domestic Brazilian business law and litigation as well as International Business Transactions, Arbitration and MERCOSUR law. Mr. Cardoso is fluent in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.

Gilberto Arango has been practicing law in Colombia since 1948. He is the senior partner of our associate office in Bogota, Columbia, Arango, Nieto, Calderon & Asociados.
Mr. Arango has had a distinguished career in government and law. He was counsel to the President of Columbia from 1952 to 1953. He wasProfessor of International Commercial Law at Universidad de los Andes from 1954 to 1957 and at Universidad de America from 1955 to 1958.
Mr. Arango served as a Senator from the State of Caldas from 1958 to 1966 and served as Governor of the State of Caldas from 1959 to 1960.
Since 1975, Mr. Arango has served as President of Asociacion de Exportadores de Cafe. His areas of practice include Colombian and Latin American Business Law, Government Representation, Foreign Transactions and Arbitration.
Rafael Nieto Navia
Rafael Nieto is an internationally recognized authority on Public International Law. He has served as Professor of Public International Law at Universidad Javeriana since 1961.
Mr. Nieto served as President of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights from 1987 to 1989, and as Vice-President from 1985 to 1986.
Mr. Nieto Navia has also served as a Judge and is a member of Academy de Droit International.
Mr. Nieto-Navia's practice areas include: Public International Law, International and Colombian Business Transactions, Investments in Columbia, Joint Ventures , International Arbitration, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Litigation. He is fluent in English, Spanish and French.
He is presently a member of the International Crimes Tribunal at the Hague.
